       Global era of today's, culture and character of the nation's problems now become public scrutiny. Spotlight on various aspects of life, embodied in the newspaper, and his speech in electronic media, do not just occur among the ordinary people but also has penetrated into the personality of the professionals, community leaders, the educated and even up to the leaders of nations and states that in the background backs on rampant crime cases ranging from students to corruption in officials goverments. Globalization has reached all sectors of public life. Especially science, technology, and information. It allows social interaction more open and fast, including the flow of foreign culture through the Internet and social networking facilities. 
However, social interaction is also proportionately less likely to increase the gap between community members resulting in disintegration. Moreover, it also potentially reduce the value of the noble nation, weaken joints personality, especially the generation of the nation. 
The alternative that the spotlight is a character education in schools as a preventative and character development of learners who will become the next generation as the answer. It is also in line with President Susilo Bambang Yudhiyono the character education movement finally launched on 20 May 2011. Outbreak of cases  criminal cases ranging from students to corruption among officials indicating a need for education that not only emphasize the cognitive aspect but also the cultivation of the values ​​of life and culture in the participant students. 
In the implementation phase of character education and culture in schools as a strategic spearhead the teachers who interact directly with students and appropriate role in education according to the Law No. 14 Thn 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers. Then for the development of character form the learners at their potential in school support the extracurricular that will accommodate the aspirations and development activities to explore the potential of soft skill respectively. 
Writing this paper aims to know problems and solutions in the development and implementation of character education and culture in schools through the optimization of teachers and extracurricular. Writing in the paper was conducted using the research approach dekstritip ekspolatif. Data collection methods used in this paper uses techniques literature. Synthesis in this paper is on character education through the implementation model to optimize the role of teachers and extracurricular as a medium of self-development so that learners have at their potential and cultured character Indonesia. 
In conclusion character education and culture in schools is essential and should be implemented as a preventive of crime rampant cases of corruption among students until officials as well as the character development of each learner can develop a potential corresponding to the character himself and cultured nation with the character education and culture through optimizing the role of teachers and extracurricular at school because those two things is at the cutting edge implementation strategies and fully supported by the components of the school. The teacher as a figure of educators in the classroom and outside the classroom, the manager of the classroom and in the process of learning to know and students can develop the potential participants who later in existing with extracurricular school activities of students in the form of units ranging from about organzation, religious, cultural arts, Scouts, a group of scientific, KOPSIS and entrepreneurial group of students.
